Optimizing Operations With Digital Tools

The digitalization of services and products is now a fundamental element of business processes. However, its impact on company performance is still not completely understood. Utilizing a mixed-methods approach using manual analysis (Step 3) and computer-assisted analysis (Step 4), and confirmation analysis (Step 5) are triangulated in order to determine the most important factors influencing the digital behavior of Italian startups.

The analysis of data shows that on average Italian startups use 1.23 digital infrastructures across organizations and 1.75 intra-organizational digital infrastructures. It is also evident that the utilization of these digital infrastructures is limited and on average, about 80% of the analyzed Italian startups do not use more than two of the inter-organizational digital infrastructures that are considered and 68% of the startups have adopted no more than one of the intra-organizational digital infrastructures.

These results suggest that a large majority of Italian startups employ a digital follower mindset rather than an advanced digital leader behavior.
