Get Ginspired: the five best places to enjoy a gin in Cheltenham

It’s Friday, the weekend’s here, and what’s more, it’s International Gin and Tonic Day!

The tipple that was once associated with ancient mother-in-laws and midday drinkers has boomed in popularity in recent years, and Cheltenham’s high street has no shortage of the stuff. What better way to celebrate the classic botanical spirit than trying out some of the town’s best collections?

Lily Gins

Living up to its name, Lily Gins in the heart of town is a haven for juniper fans. Self-proclaimed as “loud, extroverted and unashamedly awesome”, it’s an experience just ordering your drink – the menu is eclectic and the songs from the speakers positively deafening, but that’s what makes it so unique.

John Gordon’s

Sat comfortably in the middle of Montpellier is John Gordon’s, a bar that has it all. The huge gin selection will have you spoilt for choice and judging by their social media, they’re always adding new bits to the collection. The atmosphere is relaxed, the decor classy and the staff extremely knowledgable.

Babel

The Brewery Quarter’s spacious bar has an even larger gin collection, but what really makes the place special are the tonics on offer. Move over, Fevertree, Babel’s Double Dutch branded tonics are here, and come in three delicious flavours; Indian, Cucumber & Watermelon and Pomegranate & Basil.

Door 4

Though seemingly small from the outside, Door 4 doesn’t hold back when it comes to its drink selection. Seat yourself in a plush armchair, enjoy some live music and sip on a Parma Violet Martini this weekend – you really won’t regret it.

No. 131

One of Cheltenham’s classiest restaurants has an equally smashing gin menu. Not only does it boast a strong selection of gins with expertly matched tonics and garnishes, it even features local favourites Cotswold Dry and Sibling Gin.
