Business computing is the study of computer technology within an economic context. It integrates aspects of computing with subjects like accounting, marketing, information systems and business strategy to enable individuals to utilize computer technology to achieve organisational solutions.

Companies need people who can build strong, reliable, and user-friendly systems to drive organisational solutions in an age where computers are increasingly used for information delivery and analysis of data. Our BSc Business Computing degree equips you with the skills and knowledge you need to succeed in a dynamic industry. Guest lecturers from companies will share their experiences with you.

You will also develop broad-based skills that employers seek in IT professionals that range from leadership and teamwork, to project management and problem-solving. The degree gives you an excellent foundation in software development, programming websites, web design, and information systems. You may also choose to specialize in data analytics, advanced computer science, or marketing.

The course will provide you with an understanding of Windows and its application software, including Word 2002 for Windows word processing, spreadsheets and database management systems graphic presentation software, and the Internet. Additionally it will provide you with information about the security of computers and e-commerce issues.

Typically, the teaching process will be through lectures and seminars, with many courses including laboratory-based computing exercises. Additionally, you will be expected to undertake independent study and research both at home and at the university.
