What to expect from this year’s racing season

Cheltenham’s racing season is starting tomorrow, bringing enjoyment to the town. Whether you’re a keen punter, a local resident or just want a fun day out, the races are sure to lift your spirits.

Here’s 5 of the things to look out for at the races this year.

1.The Showcase

Horses, trainers and jockeys return to Cheltenham this weekend, to start the racing season.

The two day event is set to get the season off with a bang. A must for racing enthusiasts, or simply a fun day out with family and friends!

 

2.The McCoy Awards

Cheltenham racecourse have announced a new series of awards, named after the retired, record-breaking jockey Sir A P McCoy.

The awards will be categorised into owners, jockeys, trainers and stable-staff, as well as The McCoy award for outstanding achievement.

3.Hall of Fame

Quevega, JP McManus and Big Buck’s are the latest faces to be displayed in the Cheltenham Racecourse Hall of Fame.

The Hall of Fame recognises horses and humans that have performed at the highest level at Cheltenham, and you’ll be able to see the latest additions from this weekend.

 

4.Rawnaq set for Cheltenham?

Supreme jockey Ruby Walsh has his sights set firmly on Cheltenham’s race week, after winning the American grand National on Rawnaq this week.

The horse is reportedly going to be aimed at the World Hurdle, which is held at Cheltenham Racecourse during March, the most exciting week of the racing year.

Walsh has already won the Grand National at Aintree, as well as the Scottish, Welsh, Irish and Australian versions.

5.Racing and refreshments

A mini food-festival will be held at the Centaur at Cheltenham Racecourse during The Showcase spectacular this weekend.

Local food and drink lovers will be able to sample and buy a variety of produce, while enjoying the races.
