Star Wars movie marathon a success

A Star Wars movie marathon held at the University of Gloucestershire was a “great success” according to music student and event organiser Mikey Looney.

Held on Wednesday 2nd December at Park campus, episodes including A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, were shown on a big screen.

The event – which also included a raffle between the film showings – cost £3 and was set up by music and media management students as part of an upcoming assignment.

“The reason I arranged the event was for an upcoming assignment. Obviously with the new Star Wars film coming out next week, I felt this was as good a time as ever to arrange this movie marathon”, said Mikey Looney.

“As a marketing ploy we tried to rope in people from the media school at the university to give it more of a community feel. We knew that there would be a lot of people excited about the new film, so people were probably starting to recap with the old films, so we knew there would be some sort of demand for this type of event”.

The event proved to be a success with over twenty-five students attending the event.

“I think it went really well, we made nearly £100 with the tickets including the raffle and everyone really seemed to enjoy the event so we may look to do something similar in the future if people are interested.”
