In the football this weekend, Cheltenham Town travel to Oxford City in the second round of the FA Trophy.

Gary Johnson’s men will make the short trip to face lower-league Oxford, without captain Aaron Downes who has been ruled out for the rest of the season after rupturing his Anterior Cruciate Ligament.

In the absence of the injured Downes, vice-captain Kyle Storer will captain the side and has called on his teammates to step up and fill the void left by Downes.

Championship side Bristol City have sacked manager Steve Cotterill.

The former Cheltenham manager lost his job despite leading the Robins to promotion from League One last season as well as winning the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.

However with City currently sitting two points from safety in the relegation zone, owner Steve Lansdown felt that a change was needed to avoid relegation back to League One.

In Athletics, Seb Coe has been backed in his role as IAAF president by marathon world record holder Paula Radcliffe following more allegations that the organisation were aware of doping within the sport.

The news comes after a second report compiled by an independent commission of World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) said on Thursday that the IAAF Council – which included Seb Coe – ”could not have been unaware of the extent of doping in athletics”.

In the rugby this weekend, Challenge Cup holders Gloucester will look to continue their 100% record in this season’s competition with victory over French side La Rochelle at Kingsholm on Saturday.

And finally in the cricket, England are struggling with the bat on day two of the third test against South Africa in Johannesburg.

Having grabbed the remaining wickets to bowl the hosts out for 313 this morning, England’s batsmen made a sluggish start with both Alistair Cook and Alex Hales being bowled out within the first 13 overs of England’s innings.
