Matu’u to start for Gloucester in Challenge Cup clash

Samoan international Motu Matu’u is set to make his first start f0r Gloucester, as they face Treviso in the Challenge Cup tomorrow.

The 29 year old hooker joined the Cherrywhites in the summer, but an arm injury has kept him out of action until this month.

He will join Paddy McAllister and John Afoa in the front row for the clash with the Italians.

Salesi Ma’afu is named on the bench, after his move from Cardiff Blues this week.

Glos began their Pool 1 campaign with a 47-27 win over Bayonne, while Treviso were thumped 41-10 by Stade Rochelais.

As a result, the Red and Whites head into the match as favourites.

However, as defence coach Jonny Bell told the local media at this week’s press conference, it will still be a tough test:

‘There are obviously things we have to work on and we’re going to be tested this weekend against Treviso, who are very physical and who are going to come at us up front’
