Joe Wicks raises over £1.5m in a 24 hour PE challenge

Everybody’s favourite lockdown PE teacher has completed another amazing feat for charity, exercising non-stop for 24 hours in support of Children in Need. With the sponsors racking up an amazing £1,520,020.

“2020 has been a challenging year for us all… so what better way to end it than by raising money for BBC Children in Need, a charity very close to my heart,” says Joe.

Wicks began his class at 9:25am yesterday and took on all sorts of exercises including cycling, rowing, yoga and boxing. Of course, his session ended this morning with his famous HIIT (High Intensity Interval training) class for children, and of course adults, to take part in all over the country.

A variety of guests came on to support Joe. Famous faces like Zoe Ball, Louis Theroux and sport icons like Greg Rutherford and Dame Kelly Homes. However it was the joy of seeing his wife Rosie which spurred him onto the finish line.

In classic lockdown fashion the British public and schools did not hesitate to get stuck in alongside Joe. Twitter is full of people working with him taking on the gruelling workouts.

It was an emotional moment hitting the one million mark for Joe, “What?! No way! I love that,” he said. “Thank you to everyone who donated last night and this morning. That is a million pounds, to help thousands of kids across the UK. What a generous country we’ve got.”

The Body Coach has completed his challenge but you can of course still donate to the cause here.

Children In Need is live tonight at 7pm and will be an electric show with music, performances, laughter and of course it is all in the name of charity. The funds raised will go towards helping disadvantaged children across the UK. For more details, check out Will’s coverage of the event here.
