Gloucester gear up for a must win against Harlequins

After their win over Bath last weekend, John Afoa said that this weekends Aviva Premiership game against Harlequins a “must win”.

The former New Zealand tight-head came back from a calf strain against Bath, winning 15 – 11. He is set to start again at Kingsholm this Saturday.

He said “five weeks wasn’t a long time but there were some big games I would have liked to have been involved in but to come back and help the boys get a win down there was good.

“For me it’s important to win full stop, whether that is away to Bath or home to Quins – winnings a must for us.

“Being at home makes it easier to prepare. Everything is familiar, there is no travel and the fans expect a lot.”

Henry Trinder is missing the game after suffering a hamstring strain he suffered four games in to his comeback from a major knee reconstruction.

Trinder has also agreed on a new long-term contract with Gloucester Rugby.

Manager  David Humphries said “Henry is a truly exciting player whose talents I was well aware of, even before I arrived at Kingsholm, and I’m delighted that he will be a part of our squad going forward.

“Henry is another key cog in our backline as we develop our game and another re-signing ahead of next season.”

Gloucester take on Quins at Kingsholm on Saturday 13th February, kick off 1500.

Gloucester have won the last two games they have played, winning against Bath and a 14 – 11 against Zebre in January. While Harlequins have lost against Saints and Falcons by a margin, but a dramatic lost against Montpellier, a 42 – 9 defeat.

“Both teams need the win, it will be more forward orientated, a lot of carrying and back thee kicking and if they bring anything different we will have to adapt and react.” Afoa said about the Saturdays game.

The last time the two teams met, they draw 39 – 39 down at Twickenham in December.
