‘Evil’ media to blame for hair colour discrimination

We’ve all heard the stereotypes before: blondes have more fun, redheads have fiery tempers and brunettes are boring. But are these stereotypes taken too far?

Virtually every ginger-haired child will have experienced some degree of name-calling at school. For some it continues into adult life.

Last year, red-haired children in schools around the world were left beaten and bleeding after they were targeted by fellow school pupils as part of ‘Kick a Ginger Day’ – inspired by the controversial cartoon South Park.  Websites and social media spread the word that the date for this hateful day is November 20th, which is only a few weeks away.

We asked students at The University of Gloucestershire whether they had heard of ‘Kick a Ginger Day’ and what they thought of the whole stereotyped agenda.
