CRISIS PROJECT ENVIRONMENT Environment LEAD STORY

Environmentally Sustainable Housing – Will it help?

The UK housing industry accounts for 30% of the UK’s total energy use, and 27% of the UK’s carbon dioxide emissions. With this, I decided to investigate whether there is something that we can do to solve this, and make housing more environmentally sustainable. I looked into whether these improvements will be worth the money for those looking to buy their first home, as well as those renting.

I’ll be discussing the thoughts and views of those who believe this to be the right path to take, as well as those who do not.

It’s estimated that even a 25 per cent improvement in a home’s environmental standards could save occupants roughly £138 a year in utility bill costs. Now of course, that’s just financial savings. There are also the wider positive effects on the environment as well as health, to factor into the equation.

However, there are concerns that the costs of implementing these improvements could be passed onto those who are renting as well as those looking to purchase their own home.
Take a look at the video below, and let us know your thoughts.
