Council set to decide on school’s planning application

A planning application for a development at a primary school in Stroud is to be decided on today by the County Council’s Planning Committee.

The application, presented by the Council, involves building three new classrooms at Thrupp Primary School, to replace existing temporary buildings. The plans include building on the school’s current playground and the consequent relocation of the school’s playing areas, away from nearby residential properties on Thrupp Lane, Stroud.

Despite the proposal being met with much approval, some local residents have expressed concerns over the plans.

‘It needs to be protected.’

Stephen Cornwell, resident of Thrupp Lane, said: “Whilst I fully encourage the development of the school, I am concerned that the new building plans will not sit well against the original school building.

“The valley, (which is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty), needs to be protected against development which could dramatically change the character of the area.”

The meeting starts at Shire Hall at 10am today and we’ll bring you more as the application progresses.
