UPDATE: M5 slip road to remain closed following overturned lorry

A crash has left the A419 and a northbound M5 slip road closed while it’s resurfaced, causing over 24 hours of disruption.

The incident, which happened on Wednesday morning, left the driver of an HGV lorry with serious injuries. He was airlifted to Southmead Hospital after his vehicle overturned on the A419 between Whitminster and the M5.

The slip road was reopened overnight after the police finished their investigation of the scene. It has been closed again this morning to provide access for emergency services and maintenance vehicles.

The road is expected to be closed throughout the morning until after 12:30 to allow Highways England to repair the damage.

We’ll keep you updated throughout the morning until the roads are reopened.

UPDATE 13:30:

The M5 northbound junction 13 exit slip road is now expected to remain closed for the rest of the day, causing disruption into the afternoon and likely through rush hour. The lorry driver who was airlifted to hospital is in a stable condition.
