£540, 000 Pittville play park plan revealed

A video unveiling the plans of a new play park has been released. The play area proposed, will cost 540,000 and will be situated in Pittville park.

Features shown in the video include: two zip wires, tunnel slides, climbing nets and a new refreshment kiosk.

There is currently a small play area at Pittville park, which Cheltenham Borough Council plan to replace when building the half a million pound play extravaganza.

Adam Reynolds, green space development manager, said in a press release: ‘We’ve reached an exciting stage in the project where we’re able to see our vision drawn up. We want to create a play area that is accessible to children of all ages and abilities.’

Some concerns from the public have shared online however. One person said: ‘Hopefully it doesn’t get vandalised after week 1(sic)’

Some are sceptical that the video is unrealistic and the reality of the park will not match.

Pittville councillor Adam Lillywhite, said in response: ‘lots of parks have been visited that have been done by this company and they do seem to look similar.  There were a huge number of considerations before putting this final plan forward.’

He also said how the park is designed so the type of vandalism you would expect to happen at night can’t happen, by ensuring there are no hidden corners. He explained how the design involves using specialist materials including fire retardant wood.

He believes the play area ‘will add a new dimension to Cheltenham.’

The play area is scheduled to be complete by the end of the May. This will be just in time for summer and the school holidays.

The Friends of Pittville group are supporting the council in this project and are happy to receive donations to help the play area get underway.
