Cheltenham bakery Huffkins supports struggling families

Thanks to Marcus Rashford’s petition to end child food poverty , hundreds of cafes, bars and restaurants are doing what they can to help. One such business is Huffkins Bakery and Tearooms, who have branches in Cheltenham, Burford, Stow on the Wold, Stratford Upon Avon, Kingston Upon Thames and Oxford Street.

We spoke to Reece from Huffkins’ Cheltenham café, who was very positive about the project.

‘So far in this store we’ve given out around 20 free meals… We’re offering a free sandwich, bit of cake for any child that comes in with a parent, just doing our bit to help out in Cheltenham and our surrounding areas.’

When asked about Rashford retweeting the Bakery’s post, Reece says that they were ‘really pleased’ and that it helped ‘generate a lot of buzz in and around Cheltenham’. The scheme is running throughout half term, but we were also told that they may look into extending it.

If you or anyone you know needs access to free kids meals, please contact the Gloucestershire Community Help Hub on 01452 583519 or if you want to sign the petition, follow this link: https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/554276
