100 more police officers could answer call for a more diverse work force

If chief constable Suzette Davenport’s hopes to hire 100 more officers goes to plan, this could mean a real opportunity to display more diversity within the force.

This has been an ambition for the police for the last few months, after concerns were raised that the police would have less than 1,000 officers by 2018. Though this concern has risen it’s head recently with Suzette opening up once again about the demand for more officers. This maintains a struggle with the continued cuts to public spending.

Reports earlier this week highlighted that only 2.1% of the force are non-white. This 2016 review of the workforce showed no improvement in combatting a lack of diversity. If 100 more officers were to join the force, this will be the test to see how much this will be taken into consideration.
